Learning Objectives:

K: Key elements that make up print newspapers and their online counterparts.
U: How and why these elements differ from one medium to another.
BAT: Create your own analysis of these using media terminology throughout.
CO: Use media terminology in your verbal and written communication.
LP: Recall, wider reading.
Video number 1: Start with a quick overview of the newspapers front pages, highlighting key elements and difference in stories - same as the activity last lesson, choose two front covers of the same day.

Video number 2: Visit The Mail Online and the Guardian websites and do a similar analysis of their home pages in terms of highlighting elements and type of content.

Key question:
Go online and log onto the newspaper's associated social and participatory media feeds and discuss how these link to the themes or issues represented in the front covers chosen. What do you think the effects are of newspapers becoming more digital and less print? In your opinion how do they differ when it comes to telling us the news?
The daily mail online provides a brief outline of the story and the headlines arn't as detailed in comparison to what we see in newspapers. In the text at the bottom off this first article is gives a line from the article that may be in the newspaper itself aswell as online. However, online the newspaper want to appeal to the younger audience (e.g. teenagers) who are typically the people most commonly using social media and who are mostly likely to scroll app on these posts. Also, they advertise the post at the top which would grab the fans of a show, this is an eye grabbing story that appeals to the fans but also to people who have heard of the show. Also, there isn't a main story unlike in the newspapers we see one main story that doesn't change until the next days issue is release, but online we see loads of stories that appear and update as the day goes on. Online is more of a daily activity in comparison to the issues sold in stores because eventually what we see in store we will finish reading but online stories are updated daily so each time we refresh our phones we see a new story or an updated story to read. Overall, we see a major change as everything becomes more digital than reading it on paper because means money is saved on printing within companies, however it shows technology has developed.
